RI 9-11 Wall of Hope Monument Finds New Home

Installation Underway in Downtown Providence

The 9-11 Wall of Hope Monument is a communal work of art, comprised of thousands of decorated tiles, created in response to the tragic events of 9-11-2001.

The monument formerly stood in three parts at three downtown Providence locations for sixteen years as a testament to the strength of the American Spirit.

In 2019, the Rhode Island 9-11 Wall of Hope Monument nonprofit organization was established to guide the reimagining, restoration, relocation, and safeguarding of the 9-11 Wall of Hope community artwork installation.

BTGA, having donated design services for the original Wall of Hope in 2001, has worked alongside the 9-11 Wall of Hope Monument organization, since its founding in 2019, to design the newly restored monument and aid in its relocation. The monument will soon find its home along Sabin Street, in the colonnade between the entrances of the Rhode Island Convention Center and the Amica Mutual Pavilion in downtown Providence.

With the restoration of the RI 9-11 Wall of Hope complete - for which all labor and materials were donated - the installation process, which was launched in early September 2023, is now underway.

Throughout the restoration and relocation of this important monument, we have collaborated closely with many generous local businesses and individuals, including Gilbane Building Company, Dimeo Construction Company, MidCity Steel, Capco, Chariho Career & Technical Center welding students, Banneker Industries, Tavares Construction, M. DiSandro & Sons Masonry, Inc and many more. (Click here to see full list of sponsors)

The pictures below depict the restoration of the original tile panels and the delivery of the structural framework—on which the tile panels will be hung—to the site. The components of the monument have made it safely to their new home, generously hosted by the RI Convention Center Authority, where installation continues. We are very excited to see this monument find its way to a new permanent home!
