Brown Bannister House

BTGA was retained by the Brown University Department of Facilities Management in 2012 to investigate the feasibility of the restoration of historic 93 Benevolent Street, otherwise known as the Edward M. Bannister House, home to the award-winning African-American artist and Art Club founder and his wife Christiana.  We provided the University with recommendations for restoration of the home, multiple adaptive reuse layouts and corresponding construction budgets.  We recommended that the early 20th century masonry wrapping the building be removed and that the original wood cladding design from Bannister’s period of the 1880’s be restored.  This work was ultimately performed by the University’s Real Estate group for resale to faculty and staff.
