Community College of Rhode Island
Masterplan

The Community College of Rhode Island retained BTGA’s services for its iconic Knight Campus, which was originally designed and built at the height of the Brutalist Architectural Period. Through the years, however, the need for modernizations and modifications became apparent as the College addressed its evolving curriculum and growing student body. Our firm guided the initial information gathering process by holding workshops to clearly understand the various needs and issues that the College faced. We smoothly coordinated the complicated and inclusive process, inviting faculty, staff, student representatives, and college leadership. From these discussions emerged the client goals that would inform our design concepts. The concepts we presented were sensitive to the issues raised and appropriate for their resolution. We then documented these designs by incorporating them in a thorough Master Plan report. The College’s subsequent review proceeded with ease due to both the clarity of the report and to the College’s continuous involvement in the collaborative process. BTGA has since been commissioned to realize the conceptual designs over five fiscal years and has currently implemented renovations to the wayfinding, classrooms, main entry, and commons.
