RWU Forensics Lab
With an increase in interest in the field of Forensics, Roger Williams University decided to create a home to expand the program, which was previously lacking a dedicated space. The reuse of an outdated lab space required creative solutions to incorporate all the essential elements of a modern forensics lab. The design considers the configuration of scientific equipment and machinery, chemical and equipment storage, and the addition of exhaust hoods. It was important to the school that the space be flexible and able to adapt to the changing needs of the program. For example, the lab benches and the sinks in the lab are mobile, so that the room can be reconfigured for crime scene simulation. BTGA worked to fulfill the vision of the faculty who would be utilizing this space, meeting their needs by including features like a dedicated virtual reality space, blackout shades for the performance of various diagnostic tests, and multiple displays throughout the lab allowing lessons to be seen by every student in any corner of the room.
