Roger Williams University
Marine & Natural Sciences Lab
The Roger Williams University Marine and Natural Sciences building is conveniently located near our State’s vast coastline, giving students direct access to the coastal environment they’re studying. It’s important to have facilities that can promote students exploration and education. BTGA was retained to redesign one of the departments laboratory spaces that no longer served their students needs. With multiple courses taught in the same space, it was important to design the new layout to allow for discrete arrangements of the equipment used by the various disciplines sharing the lab without hindering the collaborative function of the room. The new layout is ADA compliant - providing equitable access to all equipment - and encourages collaboration through central seating, open shared areas where students can gather and work together, and effective organization of resources. It took careful coordination with the end users to design storage that maximized efficiency. New features, like blackout shades and a dedicated research space, make conducting experiments much easier, improving the efficiency and function of the lab. A fresh color palette, updated furnishings and modern equipment, put the final touch on their new space.
