Rhode Island College Clarke Science Center
BTGA, in association with Cannon Design, was engaged to modernize this 1960’s building—including a substantial addition and a complete gut renovation—to upgrade the home of the physical sciences program. The renovated center caters to everyone from first-year students to graduate researchers, with lounge areas, collaborative classrooms, and state-of-the-art labs designed for active learning. The redesign features improved natural lighting through new windows and a two-story opening, enhancing connections to the campus quad. Accessibility upgrades include a new entrance with an elevator and ramp, facilitating easier access for all students.
Environmental sustainability was a priority, aiming for LEED Gold certification. Efforts included using efficient mechanical systems, recycling construction waste, and a solar-ready roof for future installations.
The renovations were a collaborative effort among BTGA, Cannon Design, Rhode Island College, Colliers Engineering, and Dimeo Construction Company.
