Roger Williams University
Forensics Lab

The RWU Forensics program was lacking a dedicated space. With an increase in interest in the field, the University decided to create a dedicated home to expand the program. The adaptive reuse of an outdated lab space required creative solutions to incorporate all the essential elements of a modern forensics lab. The design considers the configuration of scientific equipment and machinery, chemical and equipment storage, and the addition of venting for hood exhausts. It was important to the school that the space be flexible and able to adapt to the changing needs of the program. For example, the sinks in the lab are mobile, so water can be brought to any equipment that requires it. BTGA worked to fulfill the vision of the faculty who would be utilizing this space, meeting their needs by including features like blackout shades for the performance of various diagnostic tests, multiple screens throughout the lab allowing lessons to be seen by every student in any corner of the room, and a dedicated virtual reality room for students and staff to perform simulations.
